Adam McKay, director of the brilliantly silly Anchorman movies, errs into slightly heavier territory in his upcoming film. The Big Short, based on Michael Lewis's book of the same name, focuses on the housing and credit bubble that left the US economy in a mess back in 2008.Specifically, it tells the story of the men who saw a silver lining and made millions from the crisis. The trailer gives hints of everything we might expect from a tale of economic prosperity: mahogany offices and boardroom run-ins, wads of cash and dimly-lit strip clubs. It's fast paced and flashy, and witty punchlines are thrown around with as much gusto as warnings of 'the whole world economy' collapsing.
When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. The Big Short is based on Michael Lewis' 2010 book about the housing bubble and credit default swaps.
